Common Fixes for FTP Publishing
1. Check your Publishing Details!
We can not stress enough how important it is to obtain the correct publishing credentials from you webhosts, as this is the main cause of publishing issues for 99% of users.
Go to the RapidWeaver File menu -> Publishing Settings and check that all the fields are entered correctly: Server address, username and password. The Site Path is often something that people often incorrectly enter.
Some common site paths include:
/
/httpdocs/
/www/
/public_html/
This is by no means an exhaustive list and paths can vary greatly between different hosts, so if you're still experiencing issues please consult your webhosts online help to determine the correct upload folder.
You may even want to contact your webhosts directly and ensure that they have not made any recent changes to the server which may have affected your settings and that you are still within your upload quota.
2. Make sure RapidWeaver and any third party plugins are up to date
The most up-to-date build of RapidWeaver is always available
from here: http://www.realmacsoftware.com/downloads
You can find download links to most third-party plugins via the
Realmac Software Add-ons page: http://www.realmacsoftware.com/addons
3. Clear the RapidWeaver Cache (RW 4.x Only)
In the Finder, go to the ~/Library/Caches/com.realmacsoftware.rapidweaverpro/ folder. Inside this folder, there's another folder called 'SandwichArchives'. Delete the contents of this folder. In many cases this folder contains a large number of backed-up RapidWeaver projects, however these files are not used by RapidWeaver and can be deleted without any adverse affects.
4. Use FTP Passive Mode
Most modern hosts require that you use 'Passive Mode' to publish. If you're still getting FTP error messages please ensure you've tried using Passive Mode. You can check whether Passive Mode is in use by going to the File menu -> Publishing Settings option.
Click the 'Advanced' button and check the 'Use Passive Mode' option. When using SFTP to publish, this option is not changeable as it is required by SFTP servers. You should never publish using the 'Login Anonymously' option.
5. Check whether you're using the NcFTP publishing mode.
This can be done through the RapidWeaver menu's Preferences option. Under 'Publishing' check whether the 'Use NcFTP Framework' is ticked or not.
If you're still having issues, we recommend that you toggle the 'Use NcFTP Framework', and retry publishing. Ideally you should be using the NcFTP Framework - and if you're using the NcFTP framework, it will give you more descriptive error messages.
6. What if I'm still having issues publishing?
Open a new, private support request here: http://support.realmacsoftware.com/, however be sure to provide the following details:
- Who you're hosting with.
- Which version of RapidWeaver you are using.
- What Mac OS X you are running.
- How large your site file is.
- Which, if any, third-party plugins you're using in your site file.
- The Error Message you're receiving when publishing. Please include the full text of the error, or ideally a screenshot.
- Any other pertinent information.
