Knowledge Base: Fixes For Common RapidWeaver Issues

If you’re having any issues with RapidWeaver, please be sure to run through the following steps!

1. Ensure you’re using the latest versions of your third-party plugins

If you’re using any third party plugins in your site file, it’s really important to make sure that they are up-to-date. You can always download the most recent version of each plugin from the relevant developers site to check you have the most up-to-date plugins.

2. Make sure you’re running the latest version of RapidWeaver

You can always download the latest version of RapidWeaver from our Downloads Page.
We also recommend that your version of Mac OSX is completely up-to-date. You can do this by running “Software Update...” from the Apple menu in the Menu Bar.

3. Repair your system's Disk Permissions

Even if you’re not experiencing issues with RapidWeaver it’s always a good idea to repair your disk permissions to help keep your Mac running without any problems. Here’s how to repair disk permissions:

  1. Open Disk Utility, located at /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility
  2. Select your startup disk on the left of the Disk Utility window
  3. Select First Aid from the tabs
  4. Click the “Repair Disk Permissions” button (please be aware that this can take sometime depending on your system)

4. Check your system for ‘Application Enhancer’ and either uninstall or deactivate it

Application Enhancer from Unsanity makes changes to your operating system and causes numerous issues within RapidWeaver - along with a number of other applications. We strongly recommend removing Application Enhancer from your system. To uninstall Application Enhancer please follow these steps.

Prior to version 2.0: Click on APE Manager or Application Enhancer in System Preferences. Choose the Uninstall option under the Information tab.

Version 2.0 and newer: Click on Application Enhancer in System Preferences. Click the “Troubleshooting...” button in the About tab. Click the “Uninstall Application Enhancer...” button and follow the instructions.

Alternatively you can Download the Application Enhancer installer from the Unsanity Website, run the installer and click Uninstall.

5. Check your system for ‘Adobe Reader’ and consider uninstalling it

A small (read: tiny) number of users have found that Adobe Reader cause instability with RapidWeaver’s preview window. To uninstall Adobe Reader follow the steps in this Adobe Knowledgebase document.

6. Turn off Quick Look generation while saving files

You can switch this option off by going to the RapidWeaver Preferences and un-checking the “Generate Quick Look Previews” option.

7. Use RapidWeaver in Safe Boot

Restart your Mac in Safe Boot Mode (Apple.com - Safe Boot) and then launch RapidWeaver before launching any other applications or start-up items to determine whether any other third-party product may be causing a conflict issue.

8. Provide us with as much information as possible when contacting the support team!

If you continue to experience issues, please post here on the forums. Please be sure to include as much detail as possible. Most queries can be solved incredibly quickly and easily with the right information. Here’s a guideline of what we’d love to see in every post:

  1. Version of RapidWeaver (and build number found in the RapidWeaver About box).
  2. Any built-in plugins you’re using
  3. Any third-party plugins you’re using
  4. Clear, reproducible steps to show the issue you’re having. If you think you’ve found a bug in RapidWeaver, please ensure that you can easily and consistently reproduce the error and let us know these steps. For bug reports, this is absolutely essential.
