Twitter authentication failing
I have to reauthorize Twitter for the zillionth time. And even after entering a pincode it gives me an error message:
Authentication error for Twitter.
The authentication credentials you have provided for Twitter were
not accepted. Please try again.
Removing all the prefs and database in the Application Support directory doesn't help. On twitter.com Socialite is considered as an "allowed connection". I'm really getting a bit tired of Socialite as a twitter client.

Hey Nik and the rest,
Just thought I'd drop by and let all of you knowI'm pretty sure I've tracked the source of this problem to profile peaks. Nik in fact had suggested that, but for some reason I assumed he meant lists (since I had never heard the term before). But once I deleted the 5 profile peaks I had open—those essentially being either name searches or monitors of a specific person's tweets, or tweets directed at that person—Socialite has worked perfectly, and that was about a week ago.
I think that this problem effects people with any profile peaks open, or that would be my guess anyway. I'd also maybe suggest not downloading that emergency patch the company released, because I have a feeling that didn't target this problem specifically, and I saw one person mention that it actually created this problem. I didn't download it, and was able to work it out with the current version of the software.
Anyway, I'm no expert, and I'm sure Nik has been working trying to figure this thing out, but from my objective point of view—as a user with this problem who has effectively kicked it—and considering Nik's theory that it is in fact profile peaks causing this, I would advise users remove all their profile peaks, and I would imagine that would fix their problem. I'll be curious to see if that holds true.
Anyway, good luck everybody—and Nik!
Sam.

I can tell you right now, I have no profile peeks and I still have this problem. So, so much for that idea. :\

still hoping for a fix, but anyway…
Today deleted all my Twitter stuff, folders, I'm sure whatever profile peeks are, etc. Restarted Socialite a few times, tried to reauth via Browser and within. All same results. I've verified the PIN matches each time.
Here's how mine looks now. Good luck. (Emailing console log separately.)

Same here :( endless reauthorisations of Twitter which just fail. Deleting the service helps for a bit but doesn't solve it. I have NO profile peeks at all.

Deleted everything I could find related to Socialite in my Library folder and reinstalled. Twitter seems ok so far.
Noticed that Socialite isn't removing the Twitter service properly. I remove it, close the app and when I reopen it the service is still there.

HI Guys
We're continuing to look into this issue. Looking back through the screenshots, it seems that a number of folks may be trying to enter a PIN into Socialite before clicking 'Allow' in the Twitter webpage and being presented with the PIN [note, the PIN is unique and not valid for more than one authentication attempt]. Could you confirm that folks are definitely getting to the PIN stage before clicking Enter PIN?
Thanks!
Nik

Yes I can confirm that it fails after the PIN is entered. My problem appears to be solved but only after I'd totally removed everything to do with Socialite from my hard drive (app, prefs, and everything from my Library folder) and started from scratch with a clean install.

No, no, no. First clicked allow all the time. 100% sure. Even tried the browser authentication and copy-pasted the pin myself.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the followup. We've just prepared a build to debug what's going on behind the scenes to try and track this down once-and-for-all. The following debug build should only be used to test this particular issue - and should be considered a beta build. Please download the following build, launch Console.app, launch this build, and add a Twitter account. If you're having issues still, please send the Console log to us in a new thread - this is for your own security!
http://socialite-alphas.s3.amazonaws.com/socialite_authdebugbuild.zip
Please let us know how you get on, and send over any Console logs for Socialite as you discover them.
Thanks for your patience and help in tracking down this issue.
Kind Regards,
Nik

(also posted this in thread on realmacsoftware.com) Hi, all,
Nik looked through my console logs, and found I was getting some kind of fatal error due to a specific Twitter user. I don’t follow that person, so I assume it was showing up via searches. I deleted all of my searches (I only had about 5), and also did some general housekeeping on people I don’t really need to separate out anymore.
At first, Socialite still acted the same, requiring Twitter reauth pretty often. But, after a couple of reauths and restarting of Socialite, now it seems to be okay. It hasn’t asked for Twitter creds in over a day!
I’m running 1.0.6 of Socialite. It might be worth a shot, if anyone else is still having the problem, to delete your searches, etc., and see if that helps. You might be able to add them back in later, once that bad user lookup or whatever has passed. I’ll wait a few days to try that though. By the way, it’s been about 4 weeks since the problem started for me, and I’d really almost given up. I have to say, it’s pretty nice having Socialite working again, I forgot how much I liked it.
P.S. This would also explain why deleting everything fixes the problem :)
