New icon

New icon is well designed and all...but I REALLY preferred the old icon...and even the original name of the app. It went from a fun, light-hearted name and icon, to something that looks and sounds sleezy.

I'm digging the new feature implementations and what's to come, but I really am not attracted at all to the icon and name change.

I concur. Seriously, even SociaList would be better, and an enhanced version of the old icon might be nicer. Just sayin.

Hah clever! SociaList. I like that. But alas, I'll take Socialite if only it had a better icon.

As a professional I can't do presentations with a cocktail glass in my dock. This makes me question if I want to use socialite. I liked the vision of eventbox and didn't mind the whole take-over, but it seems realmacsoftware has a different purpose with this piece of software. I wanted to wait to see what happened after the beta, but I really miss the eventbox days.

Isn't Paris Hilton a famous socialite?

    Hi Guys

Thanks for your feedback. We've spent a fair amount of time on the new icon (as well as the name) and as such we don't have any plans to change either - however I have passed your feedback on to the rest of the team so they're aware of it!

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

    Kind regards,

    Nik

    Hey guys,

although I don't mind the new name at all, I really dislike the new icon. What does it have to do with the purpose of the app? Additionally, it simply doesn't display very well in the Dock. Please change it :S

    Hi Guys

Thanks for your feedback. Whilst we're not planning to change the application icon, I have let the rest of the team know your thoughts. Here's what the OS X dictionary says about a Socialite:

"a person who is well known in fashionable society and is fond of social activities and entertainment."

We simply thought a Mojito would be a good statement of 'social activities and entertainment'.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

    Kind regards,

    Nik

Is there a way to change the icon yourself?

As a Community Manager I rely on this software to be professional, therefor I don't relate to the fashionable society/ entertainment thing.

I would like to hear the vision of realmacsoftware regarding socialite and the kind of public they want to attract. This will help me in considering the refund.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Guys

Thanks for your messages. Whilst there are ways to change the icon (using something such as CandyBar) we don't support folks doing this. With regards to vision: we simply want to make Socialite the best social networking client on the Mac for the services we support.

We spent a considerable amount of time working to make the icon look professional, yet casual and we have no plans to change it currently.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

    Kind regards,

    Nik

I personally love the new icon! I already modify my dock so that it's has a polished black glass look, so having a cocktail sitting on it with it's napkin looks classy. In all honestly, I enlarged my dock a little yesterday after installing Socialite 1.0 just so I could see the icon better.

And maybe I'm fortunate in that I work at a design agency, but I have no qualms at all with anyone seeing a cocktail glass on my dock.

I can't tell you how much I hate the new icon. I'm sorry, there's no way I'll have a cocktail glass in my dock. Are you guys turning this into toy-ware?

In all honesty, whether the icon is appropriate or appealing or not should not be the main focus of the developers-they are likely spending their time appropriately stamping out bugs etc. Anyone can change the icon back to the former EventBox icon or even MS Word for that matter by just going into the Get Info window and pasting a new icon.
