  1. Twitter wouldn't log in at first-just got a blank screen. I had to delete twitter then re-add it. Then it went through the log in screen.
  2. Search items still contribute to the Unread items count (see screenshot)
3.Retweeting-I hit Retweet and it just went off. No ability to review it or reconsider before sending it. And I see no evidence on twitter.com or seesmic that it happened at all. I know twitter's API has changed for retweeting, but shouldn't there be some delay before sending anything out in case someone hits the retweet button by accident? And why isn't it showing up if Socialite indicated that retweeting had occurred?
  3. Is there a reason why links posted on Facebook don't show up, only status updates and photos? That still limits the functionality, I'm afraid. Is this planned for a future release?

    Hi David

Apologies for this long email: there's a tonne of things to cover!

    1. Login

If you experience any issues with Twitter login, could you follow the steps in this forum thread? We've added in some extra debugging to try and figure out what's going wrong in this beta and any further information would be much appreciated. Have you removed the twitter.com keychain entries as mentioned here?

    1. Retweets

There's a couple of issues at play here for the retweets. We do display feedback to say a retweet has been posted - here, for example

    http://www.realmacsoftware.com/forums/index.php?ACT=25&fid=59&a...

If you're not seeing it, please let me know! Not all clients currently support the display of retweets. There's actually a different API feature that clients have to use if they want to get retweets inline. They do show up in Socialite (and when you're logged in to Twitter.com as in the attached screenshot).

    1. Search

What are your settings for the relevant account: are the items from that account set to appear in the 'application unread count' or not?

    1. Statuses / Links

I've just taken a look into this: we're asking Facebook for the 'Activity Stream' currently, which (to my mind) should give us links also. It's not something we'll be able to add in time for 1.0 (we're feature-locked for launch now) however I've filed a ticket asking our developers to look into it for a future update and see if this is something we can do.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

    Kind regards,

    Nik

Thanks for the quick response. As mentioned, the login issue went away after restarting Socialite, and hopefully won't rear its head again. I mentioned it only to let you know about it, as others probably will report the same issue.

Re: Retweets-it works, and I understand that you're constrained by the new Twitter API, which has its pros and cons. I just assumed the behavior would have been similar to before-click on the retweet button, the RT (using the new twitter RT format) would appear in the text area, and clicking Send would submit it. In this case, it is sent instantaneously. If this is how Twitter requires it, so be it, but it's bad behavior since the user lacks an element of control.

Search: remains an issue in that unread search items show up in the Unread smart folder. I don't see any way to configure this in the preferences. I'm sending screenshots of relevant prefs.

FB links: it would be great if this could happen in a post-1.0 release.

Now for some positive feedback, since I know I've been busting on you all for a few weeks now since the beta 2 release. I'm glad that things are developing, that at least we're getting back to the status quo in terms of usability, and that 1-2 new features are included as well. The UI is so much better (and of course much more mac-like) than crap like Seesmic. On the other hand, Seesmic has some functionality that I've come to like-simultaneous posting to FB and twitter, for example, and the ability to see posted links on FB. I really want to use Socialite by default, just as I had used EventBox all the time before. You're close-really close. Keep on a positive development path and I think you'll see a lot of happy OS X folks using your application, especially when the Mac port of Seesmic gets less and less attention from their Windows-centric developers. Thanks.

Is there a reason why I can't seem to add any smart folder on my feeds?
