multiple serious problems: cant publish, theme changes and more
Dear RW team please help.
I am almost giving up. I seem to be hit with multiple issue every time I work with RW - something is not right!
These are the issue plus what happened step by step.
Memory alert:
I made my site smaller 10mb by fixing images collage pages. But still same time as all the below issues is happening I started getting the memory alert? Why?
I read the FAQ: Memory Usage Alert and posted a question previously reg memory and collage.
I cant publish:
All was working fine after I made the site smaller. I updated my website as I wanted and hit re-publish. Straight up RW hangs and I force quite (the by now very usual problem -it hangs in a dead loop). Crash report attached.
I then did all the fixes recommended, backup, restart and repair permissions and delete SW cache.
Site opens twice:
I proceed to open my site and it opens twice (my preference is set to 'do noting') plus 'Cannot locate theme' pops up.
I quite RW and open the file again. I have had this issue before and this normally does the trick. Also the theme is there! And I reinstalled latest version recently.
I cant preview (`home page):
Once my site is open again (in one version only) I hit preview to see the theme. Straight up RW hangs and I force quite. Crash repost attached.
OK - there seem to be a definite problem which I can repeat: RW hangs when I preview my home page (index problems?). Crash report attached also (Might be same issue as above crash report but I can not recall what page I previewed).
Site do not open all the way:
I then open my file again. The sandwich load but the final window never comes up. I then open the file again and it comes up right away without the process of loading the sandwich (I have had this issue before -similar to the site opening twice).
Theme has changed:
Now my file is open in one version, I can edit and I can preview BUT my theme has changed. I use multi round theme. All pages are still rounded but most of them is not my costume version. (I have had a Theme change before and posted on it. The theme changes completely. In fact this type of complete theme change happen last nigh prior to all these listed problems...).
So now my site is the multi rounded default and not my saved rounded costume version. My Multi Rounded costume version is saved as a version option, not has a completely new theme (see screen snap)
So this is where I am at. I can open the file and preview all pages but the home page. Most of the pages has a wrong theme version. I backtracked to a saved file, pre all these problems but the file has the same problems. I have not tried to publish, so no idea if I still cannot publish.
Please have a look at the logs attached:
1 Hangs re-publish
2 Hangs preview
3. Hangs on preview Home
MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory: 4 GB, Leopard version 10.5.8
RW version 4.3
Collage 2.1 beta
Blocks 3.2.4
Photo album 4.0
Blog, styled page, offsite page, contact form 4.2.2
Theme downloaded and reinstalled in Aug
Thats my site -it wants to be seen:-)
I appreciate the support your provide. I hope there is a magic fix and I will never ever have any problems again...:-) :-) ;-)
Thanks

Hi Tine,
Thanks for the message. I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with RapidWeaver, I understand what an inconvenience this may be for you.
That's quite a few issues that you are experiencing and I understand that you've had some correspondence with my colleague Nik already regarding other issues.
How large is your site file? I'm slightly confused is it just the one site file that you are working with but at different stages of development?
When site files become very large using many complex (and sometimes memory intensive) plugins they can become unstable. If your site id quite large have you considered breaking your site into many smaller projects which can then be linked together using offsite page links?
Kind regards,
Luke

Hi Luke
Thanks for getting in touch. Maybe my email was unclear. I do write my
site is 10mb - that is not big. I would expect RW be able to handle
that?
I am only working on one site - one file. If I mention more it simple
me going back to a dublicate backup - such as when the theme changed
so instead of having to redo the theme I go to my backup. I dublicate
and rename the site before opening and making changes.
I am in contact with Nik reg theme changes but I am sure this is not
related. Please read my post. Sorry if it's long or unclear but I
really need help.
I can add a bit info about the hang force quite when trying to preview:
It started after i tried to re publish.
I am unable to preview several pages. I am pretty sure it only the
blocks pages with an embed flash sideshow. ( i have not tested all my
pages) Something happened during the
Publish which affect how photo album is linked into the block ...I
think. I tried redoing the photo album for the home block page,
relinked it in block page and it previewed fine. But is not a god
solution I have a lot of pages. And something is wrong when suddenly
it does not work!
The theme changes was differnt in this problem. Only some pages was
affected as opposite to all pages changing when using an arow key. I
also noticed that the theme changes was mainly on the new pages
(blocks, photo album, style text pages). Pages I have added in the
last weeks. Pages that all were correct theme version before I tried
to publish.
Best

Hi Tine,
you're quite right that RapidWeaver should not be experiencing such issues with a 10mb site.
Could you please send us a compressed copy of your site file (.rwsw file) so that we can investigate what may be causing this problem?
To do this locate your site file in the Finder and control click on it and select 'Compress....'.
Kind regards,
Luke

Hi Luke
Please find dropbox link to download 16mb folder with the theme and 2
files (one from the cache and the site file):
-In the SW cache file - the block pages titled Boundless (under
interactive) and Fnug (under sculpture) hangs on preview. However
previously when I wrote to you, the home also did not preview. So
there is no consistency.
-In the main site file - boundless page previews fine but fnug does.

Hi Tine,
Thanks for sending those over. I'm unable to recreate the issue myself with either of your site files.
Are you able to create a new 'test' site with the issue using just styled text (or other native page types)?
Kind regards,
Luke

Hi Luke
Bad news for me!
I made a quick test site in pure RW pages style text, photo album and
blog (blog is yours right?) and no problems!
OK hellpppp gulp. What is my problem? I still cannot not preview the
file site? It hangs in the now very family death loop!
-Did you see some pages had the theme default some my costume?
-Could it be a problem with linking to my iphoto library? Thats my gut
feeling. Unless is a block thing...
-Why did it all go wrong after trying to publish
PLEASE any input you - have I need it!
Thank You
Tine

Hi Tine,
As you are unable to recreate the issue within native pages the likelihood is that the issue relates to Blocks, which we unfortunately can not provide support for as it is by a third party.
You will need to contact the good folk at YourHead.com for their continued support of Blocks. I would suggest giving them the link to your dropbox. Please let us know how you get on!
Kind regards,
Luke

Hi Tine,
Yes that's right, when I viewed your site files I didn't have any issue with crashes or hangs and all the pages previewed as they should.
Kind regards,
Luke

Dear Luke
I be grateful for your supreme advice.
We talked 6 mt back regarding my site hanging and theme changes. (The
hang problem is one I have a lot - to the extend I avoid updating my
site). You had a look at my site and found no problem I also opened on
another mac (and like you, no problems).
Naturally the site file dont link to my iphoto (as my iphoto library
is not there of cause) when on another Mac. Big clue I hope.. also
matches with the fix I normally have to do to, which is to re-link all
my iPhoto albums listed in the left-hand column. The hang problem
happens when I try to publish or preview and in particular after the
site be unopened - it feels like it forgets where to look?
Question is, do I need to go back to hard linking all my photos
'Creating Custom Photo Album'? (I know its a potential problem outside
RW - with iPhoto with something else - and I should probably keep it
all in one tidy folder and not open my self up to other libraries,
they could leave, they could change, they could crash - but that is
what I like about rapid weaver - it links to iphoto and makes it easy)
Is this something you recognise? Lots of good people in the forum
recommend not using iPhoto libraries but its a lot of work to go back
to hard linking them -exporting for web and change all my settings. I
will of cause do it, want my site to be updated but really appreciate
your advice first...?
many thanks

Hi Tine,
Thanks for the update. When using the Photo Album page type RapidWeaver uses absolute paths to link to your iPhoto Albums or image locations (if you choose to drag photos into 'Your Album'). Does this answer your question?

Sorry Luke I dont understand your reply. Are you saying that RW uses
absolute paths in the same way, weather I use iphoto album link via
the columns or if I use images location?
If thats the case, changing my setup (iphoto or separate dedicated RW
folder) will not make a difference to my problem of RW hanging unless
I re link all my images every time I preview or export.
Thanks

Hi Tine
Thanks for your message. We use the link to the iPhoto Library to determine the file locations, however if a user has multiple iPhoto libraries (and manages them using a third-party application) this can cause issues as we don't support multiple iPhoto libraries.
Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
Kind regards,
Nik
